View 2009 LAE Finals Results

Our annual Limited Age Event was held in Madras Oregon at the Norton Arena Sept 29 with the grand finale held the evening of Oct 2nd. The current LAE committee tried to expand on the great success of the previous years committees. The event started as usual with great warm fall weather! Cold and crisp in the mornings, by Friday we had rain and sleet showers and Saturday night we had sleet/snow showers leaving a dusting of snow on the area hill sides, burr it turned cold! But our week started off with a fresh cattle practice and meet and great get together with wine and munchies after the practice hosted by WCHA! I think that everyone involved had a great time which started the week off with a bang!
We did see a decline in entries. This was expected as it was the norm for all LAE and weekend shows through out the US in the 2009 season. Expecting that the committee pushed forward to make this a great event to expand upon in the future. We tried to add some fun to the event by hosting a wine and hors d oeuvres party Thursday evening. The food and wine were fantastic and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Our Total entries were right at 80 with a total payout of $35,429.53! We tried to change up the schedule by having the finals Friday evening. This seemed to work out extremely well. As a committee we wanted as many members as possible to be able to see and enjoy the finals. So we started our weekend show Friday morning with a break late afternoon. We started off with a Calcutta prior to the finals. Thank you Jim Cox and Brad Smith for running the Calcutta for us. Fun was had by all and the Finals got underway with a wonderful dinner provided for us by our faithful “Cook Shack”! They had prepared a delicious beef brisket dinner for everyone to enjoy as they watched the finals. Cameron Verstegan made a repeat performance and won the open Futurity, as well as the Open Derby. Congratulations Cameron! And Congratulations to all of our finalist and winners! The committee would also like to thank Tommy Norton for his wonderful hospitality and all of our members that worked so diligently to make this event such a success! We have lots of ideas for 2010 anyone wishing to jump aboard and join the committee let us know?
